The Passage of Time: Children Outgrow their Furniture, What to do?

Hello, Grandma Anke is here again with her lifelong experiences with children and young people and their growing needs.

Everyone grows out of children's furniture! We older people remember our first beds, the cuddly islands and feel-good furniture. Do you also remember the change from children's beds to youth beds?

In my last blog I wrote about children's and guest beds, today I am moving from the children's bed to the youth bed. Who can still remember the farewell from the "small" to the "big"? What is all this connected with, what impatience, what joy accompanies a child when it can switch from what is familiar to something completely new! The feeling that you can already reach the end of the bed with your toes and can no longer really stretch out when you stretch out! Even if the width just doesn't fit you anymore because there's simply not enough space!

There are so many creative, adventurous and yet practical designs for young people! I remember our children's loft bed with the first large dimensions. A ladder led to the upper floor, over which there was frequent scrambling. But the one lying below could really annoy the brother or sister by smacking under the mattress from below and enjoying the squeaking of the one above! And the upper one could throw quite a few things down to create squeaks there.

But how practical are these constructions! Simple models of boards and battens and a simple ladder are affordable for everyone. More comfortable models, in which the side walls are made of solid, fragrant and noble wood, built-in shelves in the lower compartment and a practical shelf for all those things that an adolescent needs to have with him in bed, and a built-in light on the upper tier - such a luxury is already a special happiness! A ladder is rarely found in such models, more often a comfortable staircase, the steps of which are also developed as a drawer. Space miracle deluxe!

Who wouldn't like to go to bed there, who wouldn't be able to feel comfortable there? A kingdom of its own, so to speak, a castle, a fortress!

Such a purchase is worth it, I promise! Because such high-quality furniture lasts for many years and can later be used as a welcome additional workplace for the parents if it is not taken with them when the young adult moves out! Definitely worth considering for all parents whose child or children are in the process of growing out of their infancy and beds!
