Wooden Toys and Wooden Furniture for Children - Emotional Companions for a Lifetime
Hello, this is Grandma-Anke again!
Have you ever thought about how important furniture for children are? Worth it! The memory of the furniture you grew up between, what you sat on, what table the plate and mug stood on, what bed you slept in? What was particularly fun, swinging on a wooden board or a wooden pole? Or the game in the sandbox, which was framed with a rough wooden border?
A small stepladder that you could sit or stand on or just climb around?
Or were you lucky enough to own climbing equipment or scaffolding?
In my first blog I wrote about my very first memories of wooden objects I grew up with: the rocking horse, the duck on a rope, the cot, the high chair and the simple stroller made of simple chipboard. Those were the years around 1950.....
A few years later there were still the simplest toys: the swing made of a wooden board, the small stepladder on which you could go up two steps on one side and down again on the other. The sandbox was surrounded by simple, rough boards on which one rammed many splinters under one's skin.
But a few years later everything became a little more comfortable: there was the deckchair on which you could pose, a nice corner bench for the terrace and in the kitchen the wooden bench with a hard backrest. The seats were two sturdy boards under which there were two compartments. All our games were in there: board games like "chess", "mill" and "checkers" and card games, "Monopoly", "ludo", "catch the hat" and much more. A true treasure trove for us children!
However: the ancient bench in the garden was and remained an old part of the garden.
The highest was of course the climbing frame in the neighbor's garden! With ladders, ropes and hatches you could play Cowboys and Indians or whatever!
It is only in retrospect that I realize how important and of lifelong significance these wooden companions were to me in my younger years. That makes pensive.
Shouldn't we give our children the best, sturdiest and most stable when we are going to buy them furniture or games? Parents: watch out! Worth it! Because children always develop an emotional relationship with the things around them!
In this sense greets
Grandma-Anke
