Grandma Anke's children's and youth room, beloved pieces of furniture!
Hello everyone, this is Grandma Anke again, had to take a little break because of urgent grandma duties (looking after grandchildren during the holidays is a godsend)!
Who has room for a guest bed? Where does your visitor sleep when they are your guest for several nights? Are there child-friendly beds in which small guests can feel comfortable for a week or two or three and not mourn the loss of their own bed at home?
What about the already young guest who no longer fits in the cot and needs something bigger to sleep in?
Holidays! Time to travel! Get to know other countries, cities, villages, areas! Who doesn't like to remember the first holidays with their parents or the first overnight stays with grandparents or aunts and uncles? Or the overnight stays with your girlfriend or boyfriend?
Today I'm pulling out a sofa bed, a super practical piece of furniture made of wood, rattan and upholstery, which can be used as a small sofa in "normal" everyday life and can be transformed into an excellent guest bed in the truest sense of the word for small guests (or even slightly larger ones).
When I was a child, there was a three-part wooden frame that could be pushed into one another and, with a poster or mattress on top, could be used as comfortable seating or reclining furniture. Later there was a so-called folding bed: for reasons of space (my room was narrow and long), an upright bed box was ordered from the carpenter, and a wooden lying surface was hung on it with hinges, which, when unfolded, turned the lying surface into a bed in the evening. Feet were simple solid blocks of wood on which the lying surface rested and which were simply pushed underneath in the evening. A permanently installed mattress was enough and the best sleep was assured. The wooden frame made it a bit like being in a cave, with books on top that were read long into the night until your eyes closed. In the morning the whole thing was folded up again, the underside consisted of a solid wooden board with a beautiful grain. Later, the fine wood was painted over with bright colors, that was common for a while: everything natural colored was painted over at some point, it was probably so fashionable that everything had to be brightly colored.......
This folding bed later served as a guest bed, space-saving, comfortable and can be integrated into any room.
So much for today about convertible sofas and guests and holidays and grandma/grandchildren!
